CalWORKS & Cal-Learn

CalWORKs provides temporary financial assistance to needy families while they seek employment and self-sufficiency.

Adults in these households must participate in Welfare-to-Work activities that may include education, vocational training, community service work and counseling.

Supportive services such as childcare and transportation are provided to participating individuals.

CalLearn assists pregnant/parenting teens to attend and graduate from high school or its equivalent.  Coordinated services are designed to help teens become self-sufficient and responsible parents.

Services include intensive case management, payments for child care, transportation and educational expenses, cash bonuses for good grades, attendance and earning a diploma or its equivalent.

General Assistance

General Assistance provides repayable cash aid and in-kind for the subsistence and needs of the County’s disadvantaged citizens.

Recipients are limited to three months of assistance in any twelve-month period.

Assistance must be paid back to the County, however, employable persons are assigned to community service work projects that can fulfill their obligation to repay the County for General Assistance.
