$3,000 of Majority Funds May 2006

Est. Start Date: July 2005                          Est. End Date: September 2007

Project Description:  A ground and stream water monitoring system will be implemented at the location of the proposed Red Clover stream restoration project.
1.All previously generated restoration project monitoring data generated by the CRM will be subjected to a thorough hydrologic review; the review will be limited to stream flow and ground water data.
2.Installation of two to five piezometers depending on feasibility. It is proposed to use a geoprobe to install these piezometers. The geoprobe method will permit collection of sediment cores at selected locations, to help analyze the meadow stratigraphy and meadow aquifer configuration.
3.Sampling of stream and ground water above and below the proposed restoration project, the springs and one or two selected piezometers. Water samples will be analyzed for the environmental isotopes deuterium and oxygen-18 and selected major ions in water.  Monitoring will cover a period of two years, spanning the pre- and post-restoration project phases. The preferred sampling interval is monthly.

Project Goals/Objectives:
Collect both pre- and post-project data
Assess the utility of environmental tracer methods to measure baseflow augmentation  benefits from stream restoration

Project Activities:
July 2005 – December 2005:
Site review & consultations to determine sample sites; install staff gauges and collect stream samples (3 times); lab analysis, data entry and summary review.
Expenditures through December 2005: $2,601.65
January 2006 – June 2006: Submitted application to Watershed Forum for continuation of funding to cover post restoration monitoring activities.
