Project Description:  Improve the infrastructure of the Resource Conservation District expanding its abilities to work with landowners and improve water quality.  Assist and educate ranchers and forested landowners on installing and monitoring practices.

Project Goals/Objectives: To increase awareness of the need for resource conservation through educating landowners about the role they have in improving the sustainability of our watersheds and other natural resources.  Host a public workshop for ranchers and landowners in February.  The workshop will inform landowners on which programs are available to them and how the FRRCD can assist them in implementing projects.
To monitor the effectiveness of projects that have been implemented and determine if any significant differences have occurred in the treatment areas. Conduct before and after documentation on projects initiated by the Feather River Resource Conservation District.  Results will be published to serve as additional educational outreach.

Project Activities January 1, 2005 – December 31, 2005:

  • Co- sponsored the Plumas –Sierra County Fair Jr. Livestock Auction Buyers Lunch and the Cattleman’s dinner.
  • Held a public workshop, which included presentations on project funding opportunities.
  • Display booth at Headwater Festival
  • Met w/ various landowners to view possible projects to fund.
  • Funded the fencing portion of FR College’s Riparian Corridor Protection Project.
  • Provided cost-share funding to Carol Kearns on a Wildlife Habitat Restoration & Fuels Reduction Project.
  • Visited project sites to obtain before and after photo documentation

Expenditures: 1/1/05 – 12/31/05: $17,750

Project Activities January 1, 2006 – June 2006:

  • Solicited requests for funding; helped landowners w/ application & project maps
  • Met w/ landowners & viewed possible projects to fund; selected/approved three projects
  • Developed ranking criteria worksheet to use on incoming RCD project proposals
  • Developing landowner agreement
  • RCD personnel trained on budgets and financial reporting
  • Worked on FR RCD emblem, project signage and website
  • Visited Kearns and FR College project sites to obtain photo documentation of project progress

 

Expenditures: 1/1/06 – 10/16/06: $ 14,890.00
