Project Description: 

  1. Coordinate the restorations on the Charles Creek reach of Last Chance Creek and Hosselkus Creek more fully described in the project section titled CRM Charles & Hosselkus Creeks.
  2. Provide funding for a watershed program coordinator to respond to project requests, develop additional funding contacts and communicate with stakeholders
  3. Provide funding to maintain a watershed wide monitoring program and allow for expansion of monitoring in American Valley.

Project Goals/Objectives:

1. Provide staff support to facilitate completion of existing projects 

2. Increase capacity of the FR CRM to implement watershed wide restoration efforts.

3. Monitor the effectiveness of project work in achieving the goals of the Feather River Watershed Management Strategy.

Project Activities:
Development/Coordination Activities:
April 1, 2005 – June 30, 2005: Field meeting w/ six landowners and Sierra Valley RCD to develop a Technical Advisory Committee and discuss potential project design alternatives; meeting w/ landowners on Smith and Long Valley Creeks to garner interest & educate on restoration techniques; develop draft conceptual design for project work on Long Valley Creek; attend Trout Unlimited meeting to discuss proposed Smith Creek project; met w/ landowners on Silver and Spanish Creeks.
July 1, 2005 – September 30, 2005: Completed surveys and conceptual design on Dixie and Smith Creeks; completed survey work on Little Last Chance Creek; continued communication & coordination w/ landowners.
October 1, 2005 – December 31, 2005: Meetings & correspondence w/ landowners and the irrigation district on Little Last Chance Creek; completed conceptual design/ development phase for projects on Smith, Dixie, Long Valley and Little Last Chance Creeks; cross sections and GPS surveys done on Big Grizzly Creek; ongoing communication & coordination w/ landowners.
            
Expenditures on Development & Coordination: $35,000
Monitoring Activities:
January 1, 2005 – April 15, 2005: flow measures collected at locations in Indian & American Valleys; data summarized; presentation by Steve Loheide re: the Stanford study using infrared technology was given to Monitoring Technical Advisory Committee.
April 16, 2005 – July 15, 2005: mid-season data processing   done on all permanent monitoring stations; serviced permanent monitoring stations at Spanish and Lights Creeks; flow measurements taken in Indian and American Valleys.
July 16, 2005 – September 30, 2005: downloaded and process data from stations at Doyle Crossing, Million Dollar Bridge and Big Flat; service all permanent monitoring stations; updates to the station data file; updates to hourly temperature and flow files; reconciling measurements w/ stage shifts and stations performance; flow measurements taken in Indian and American Valleys.
October 1, 2005 – December 31, 2005: service permanent stations at Notson, Flourney, DWR, Wolf, Doyle Crossing, Million Dollar Bridge, Big Flat and Spanish Creek; installed new desicant packs and batteries at all stations, downloaded data and prepared stations for winter; replaced turbidity wiper on Taylorsville gage and reinstalled gage; replaced wiper and repaired transducer housing on Spanish Creek gage; data file check done on all stations; flow measurements taken in Indian and American Valleys; Monitoring Coordinator attended State Water Quality Control Board’s Non-point Source Pollution Conference; flood event report done for the monitoring conducted during the December 22 and December 31 flood events.
