Clinic Schedule

Services are provided at the Health and Human Services Building daily in Quincy on an appointment and/or drop-in basis, once a month in Chester and Greenville, and twice a month in Portola.  Some services are provided at no cost, while others are at a set fee or sliding fee schedule based on family income.  No individual is denied services due to an inability to pay.  Nursing services provided by PCHPA include:

Nursing Services

These clinics provide a variety of direct medical services including child and adult immunizations, blood pressure checks, family planning, Teen Smart counseling and family planning services specialized for teen-agers, AIDS/HIV testing and counseling, pregnancy testing, WIC evaluations, employee health screening and prevention education.  PCPHA sponsors May as FREE IMMUNIZATION MONTH for children.  Tetanus, pneumonia and influenza vaccines are offered to adults during November, which is FREE IMMUNIZATION MONTH for adults.  Fall of 1999 was the first year sixth graders were required to have their Hepatitis B vaccine series, Tetanus booster and a second Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine as a condition to entering seventh grade.  PCPHA co-sponsors, with Plumas Unified School District, an annual Kindergarten Round-Up.

The PCPHA Immunization Coordinator distributes a limited number (2,000) of influenza vaccine doses that have been designated for Plumas County.  The coordinator works with four community hospitals to distribute the vaccine, set up free clinics and evaluate results.

Adult Protective Services/In-Home Support Service Public Health Nurses

The PHN provides a variety of services for Social Service adult clients who need medical care and joint case management.  The nurse assists individuals and their families in carrying out recommendations by Adult Protective and IHSS Services caseworkers and physicians.  The public health nurse provides teaching and counseling on a variety of health care topics, refers clients as appropriate for medical care and services, provides health workers with medical information, and conducts assessment of families at risk.  The public health nurse also assists Social Services in maintaining compliance with state regulations on health issues.

 

Family Planning Clinics

These clinics, held throughout the county, provide examinations, education, birth control methods, pregnancy testing, referral and follow-up.  Services are funded through a fee for service schedule with the State Office of Family Planning.  Services are provided at low or no cost for eligible women.

 

HIV Antibody Testing and Counseling

Health Services staff provide confidential HIV Antibody Testing and Counseling in Portola and Quincy.  Testing services include pre-test counseling, risk assessment. education about risk reduction, laboratory test and intensive post-test counseling.  Referrals are made as appropriate to Alcohol and Drug, Mental Health and to HIV/AIDS care and treatment services and other appropriate local service providers.

 

Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

Plumas Rural Services contracts with Public Health Nursing to provide physical assessment, height, weight and laboratory tests for women and children eligible for the WIC Program.  Providing WIC evaluations offers nurses an opportunity to talk with the parent regarding prenatal care, the Child Health Disability and Prevention program, immunizations, dental health services, and family planning.
