Braving the late winter wind are (left to right):
  • Emily Pflaster, a Coro fellow (Coro is a civic leadership training organization) working with CARE (Carpet America Recovery Effort),
  • Kathy Frevert, Senior Integrated Waste Management Specialist at CalRecycle,
  •  Mary Pitto, Regulatory Affairs Advocate from Regional Council of Rural Counties, Environmental Services’ Joint Powers Authority (RCRC, ESJPA),
  • Ricky Ross from InterMountain Disposal Company,
  • Georgina Sikorski from CARE

John Kolb, Plumas County Department of Public Works (not pictured), was also present as they all met at the Delleker Transfer Station to discuss the pilot carpet recycling program.

The pilot carpet recycling program will begin this Spring at this site.

This pilot program is the result of a new state law - AB 2398 - that opens the door for carpet recycling in California.

All carpet collected this way will be trucked to a recycling company – transportation paid by CARE, where it will be ground up and used for the manufacture of a variety of new products.

Plumas County carpet recyclers will be given a 25% discount on regular disposal fees to roll their discarded carpet up (nap side out) and place it in the trailer

Brochures with more information on the pilot program are available on this website, at the offices of InterMountain Disposal and Feather River Disposal, at all transfer stations, at local carpet retail stores and at the office of the Department of Public Works in Quincy.

The recycling service will be available only at the Delleker Transfer Station.
